Lesson 6-2W: Write Paragraphs that Explain Analysis of Nonfiction
This lesson, Writing Foundations: Short Essay Lesson 6-2W, focuses on writing informational paragraphs that explain an analysis of nonfiction texts. There is a lot of solid reading and writing work in this lesson! Be sure your child completes only one or two lesson parts at a time, to break the lesson up into digestible, "doable" chunks.
Your child will watch the lesson video and follow along in the downloadable student packet to learn about
using effective transitions;
annotating a social studies-based, persuasive nonfiction text;
understanding the writing prompt;
selecting evidence; and
using the writing process to produce a final draft (brainstorming/planning, selecting evidence, drafting, and editing & revising).
In this approximately 90-minute video, Tutor Heather provides
guided notes on annotating nonfiction text and understanding writing prompts;
examples of different informational writing prompts;
a proofreading marks reference chart;
an original social studies-based, nonfiction passage;
demonstrations of annotating, brainstorming, planning, drafting, and editing/revising;
guided practice; and
a practice prompt with guidance to complete independently.
This no-prep lesson is print, click, and go! You will receive the pdf document of the downloadable guided notes packet after purchase to print. The website address and links to the video are located on the cover page (parent page) and page 1 of the student packet.
