Lesson 6-1L: Misplaced & Dangling Modifiers and Intensive Pronouns

Your child will watch the self-paced video lesson and follow along using the included downloadable student packet to learn everything there is to know about identifying & fixing misplaced and dangling modifiers, as well as how to use intensive pronouns. In this approximately 30-minute video, Tutor Heather provides mini-lessons, guided notes, examples, practice exercises, and a practice quiz with an answer key that explains why the correct answers are correct.

The entire lesson (video & packet) do not need to be completed in one sitting. The four lesson parts can each be completed separately on different days. Or, the lesson video can be broken up and completed on different days this way in shorter, more easily digestible chunks:

• Part 1: Quick Parts of Speech Review & Part 2, Misplaced Modifiers;

• Part 2: Dangling Modifiers & Part 3: Use Intensive Pronouns; then

• Part 4: Practice Quiz.

This Lesson is Appropriate for the Following Students:

• Grades 4 and 5 Students (ages 9 through 11) who are able to

  • identify parts of speech (nouns, pronouns, adjectives, verbs, adverbs, conjunctions, and prepositions), as well as the subject and verb (main verb that the subject completes) of sentences.

• Grade 6 Students (ages 11 and 12) who

  • can identify parts of speech, subjects, and verbs in sentences as described above.

  • haven’t learned to identify and fix misplaced & dangling modifiers, or use intensive pronouns.

  • have learned to identify and fix misplaced & dangling modifiers, as well as use intensive pronouns, but would like some extra practice.

• Grades 7 and 8 Students (ages 12-14) who 

  • missed learning about misplaced & dangling modifiers, as well as intensive pronouns in previous grades. Or, they need to review or practice these topics for enrichment or to prepare for exams.
